Vaughan Civic Centre Resource Library

A Glass, Metal, & Sintered Ceramic Marvel

On the northern outskirts of Toronto, ON, The Vaughan Civic Centre Library marks a clear departure from traditional architecture. Asserting a dynamic design and multi-functional spaces, the library stands as the embodiment of community connection and creative discovery. Designed by Toronto’s ZAS Architects, it features mostly glass and metal on the outside with a striking canopy featuring Ceramitex® Sintered Ceramic panels.

The Architect

Raw Design architects used Ceramitex (Sintered Ceramic Facade System) and Alumitex (Aluminum Plate Facade System) for the exterior of the building. The durability of the products and wide range of standard and special order colors allowed for the concept to become a reality. You can check out the concept to completion slider below.

360° Advantage

For this project, the client envisioned a monolithic cave-looking entrance and vestibule with a material that resembled stone yet provided extreme durability. In theory, the entrance and vestibule would appear to be “carved out of rock”. To achieve this look, unique facade properties, profiles and shapes were required. Nearly all panels would be different, none rectangular, and most hung downward facing. The Ceramitex® Sintered Ceramic Facade System and Unity® Attachment Technology coupled with a high level of collaboration between Elemex®, Architect, General Contractor, and Installer made the client’s vision a reality.
